This establishment, located in a region which captivated Emperor Nero and his wife, Poppaea, has a great history. It has provided food and hospitality to travellers for over a century, before undergoing an astonishing metamorphosis. Valérie Cristina, who is passionate about cooking, worked for eleven years in architecture before donning her chef’s hat and very rapidly delighting fine diners at the Restaurant de la Gare, as it was first known, between 2008 and 2014. Well nurtured by Olivier Couvin, one of the triple Michelin-starred chefs at the Auberge du Pont de Collonges (Paul Bocuse), this self-taught woman quickly gained confidence in the plausibility of her dishes which sing with the fresh produce from the adjoining vegetable garden. Having worked alone in the kitchens since 2016, today she offers a refined, gourmet menu and is ably supported in the both the kitchen and dining area by her lively team. Her iconic dish is a symphony of foie gras, which alone justifies a trip to ‘La Gare’…
