Jean Sulpice entered the history books by becoming, at the age of 26, the youngest Michelin-starred chef in France. This native of Aix-les-Bains came down from his gourmet establishment in Val-Thorens to take on the legendary ‘Auberge du Père Bise’ together with his wife, Magali. The chef has been quick to revive this sleeping beauty in its idyllic setting. This rejuvenation has been rewarded with two Michelin stars and the 2018 Gault&Millau chef of the year award. The double accolade is well deserved by this magician with aromatic herbs, who knows how to best showcase fine produce from the lakes and mountains, such as his Arctic char with violets, preceded by an egg yolk cured in smoked oil. Regulars also have a weakness for the pigeon with blackcurrants, spinach and sage, and the hazelnut, blackcurrant and blueberry soufflé is a unanimous favourite for dessert. This gourmet symphony can be enjoyed before sampling the cosy charm of the ‘Maison Sulpice’ and its twenty-three fully refurbished suites and rooms.
